Northwestern Ontario is a region inside the Canadian province of Ontario which lies north & west of Lake Superior, and west of Hudson Bay and James Bay. It includes virtually all of subarctic Ontario. Its american boundary is the American province of Manitoba, which disputed Ontario's claim to the western section of the region. Ontario's best to Northwestern Ontario was determined per Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in 1884 and confirmed per Canada (Ontario Boundary) Work, 1889 of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Within 1912 a Parliament of Canada per Ontario Boundaries Extension Work gave jurisdiction on top a District of Patricia to Ontario, thereby extending a northern boundary of the province to Hudson Bay.
These are a province's virtually all sparsely populated vicinity. Its exclusively major city is Thunder Bay. Little communities in the area include Kenora, Dryden, Rainy River, Atikokan, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout and Central Patricia. There are besides many twelve First Nations in Northwestern Ontario.
